Grow Like A Redwood

by Sarah Davis

From frown to smile
it took a while.
From stem to bloom
developing my style.
From roots to leaves
so many seasons
spent working
rolled up sleaves.
Worth it
to grow
a solid tree,
free from the captain.
We all know
how it has to happen.
Sit back,
the adventure
will map itself.
Relax,
the blossom
unfurls itself.
Never too late.
Sometimes
it takes awhile
for the ocean
to participate
in the rain drop
earth shake.
Making walls fall down.
No escape for the clowns.
All playing dodgeball
will be knocked down.
I will still be standing
next time
the world turns around.
